Montgomery Township Launches Recruitment Drive With Top Pay and Expansive Officer Perks

MONTGOMERYVILLE, PA — The Montgomery Township Police Department has opened a new hiring cycle, seeking highly motivated and community-focused candidates to join its 39-officer force. The department announced Thursday that applications for entry-level police officer positions are now being accepted through January 18, 2026.

Officials said they are looking for applicants who demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to public service. The department serves a population of roughly 26,000 residents across 10.7 square miles, an area that includes major shopping centers, business parks, and heavily traveled state routes.

In its recruitment announcement, the department highlighted extensive opportunities for advancement, specialized assignments, and career development. Specialty units include the Detective Division, Highway Safety, K-9, Bike Patrol, Firearms Instruction, Drone Operations, Community Policing, and DARE. Officers may also seek positions with countywide teams such as SWAT, the Major Incident Response Team, and the Montgomery County Drug Task Force.

The department outlined rigorous hiring requirements, including U.S. citizenship, Act 120 certification, a clean criminal record, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by appointment, and the ability to pass physical and psychological examinations. Applicants must be 21 by their swearing-in date and able to provide credible courtroom testimony.

Montgomery Township also emphasized one of the region’s most competitive compensation packages. The starting salary for Act 120–certified probationary officers in 2025 is $78,187, rising to $146,973 by the fourth year under the current contract. Benefits include paid vacation and personal time, 13 paid holidays, longevity pay, medical and dental coverage, life insurance, a 16-week field training program, tuition reimbursement of up to $6,000 annually, a four-year DROP program, pension options, overtime availability, and an education bonus for associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees.

Uniform cleaning and repair services are provided at no cost, and officers work 12-hour rotating patrol shifts.
