Maryland Man Dies After Motorcycle Crash in Newark, Police Say

NEWARK, DE — The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday evening in Newark and later claimed the life of a Maryland man.

Authorities reported that on August 23, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound on Chestnut Hill Road, approaching North Kingston Road, when it collided with a Buick LaCrosse. Investigators say the Buick, which was traveling eastbound, attempted a left turn when the motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.

The rider, 53-year-old Jackie Spicer of Elkton, Maryland, was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. He was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but died on August 25, 2025, as a result of those injuries.

The driver of the Buick, a 44-year-old Newark woman, was not hurt in the collision.

The roadway was closed for about an hour while investigators conducted an on-scene examination. The case has since been turned over to the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit, which is continuing the investigation.
