UPPER CHICHESTER TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a long-term traffic pattern change will begin next week on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, as part of a $99.4 million reconstruction and widening project. The effort aims to improve traffic flow and safety along one of the region’s most heavily traveled corridors.

From Monday, November 3, through Wednesday, November 5, lane closures will occur nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM between Chelsea Parkway and the Route 452 (Market Street) Interchange while crews prepare the new configuration. By Thursday morning, November 6, U.S. 322 will shift to a single-lane pattern in each direction through the work zone—a setup expected to remain in place through 2026.

Once the new traffic pattern is established, crews will begin Stage 2 construction, which includes the full reconstruction and widening of the eastbound side of U.S. 322, as well as demolition and rebuilding of the bridge over Route 452 (Market Street). Additional lane restrictions will continue on Route 452 and Bethel Avenue to accommodate related work.

PennDOT advises motorists to plan ahead, expect delays, and allow extra time when traveling through the area, especially during peak hours. All work is weather dependent.
