LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced several nighttime lane closures next week on Route 30 as part of the Route 30/222 Interchange Improvement Project. These closures will allow contractors to conduct inspections using a camera within a pipe under the roadway.

Weather permitting, the left lanes of both eastbound and westbound Route 30 will be closed from New Holland Pike (Route 23) to Oregon Pike (Route 272) on Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Additionally, the right lane of eastbound Route 30 and the ramp connecting eastbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222 will be closed on Tuesday, May 20, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic impacted by the ramp closure will follow a detour via the Route 23 east (New Holland Ave/Pike) exit before reversing west on Route 30 to rejoin northbound Route 222.

These closures serve to finalize a traffic switch that moves northbound and southbound Route 222 traffic onto the newly constructed southbound bridge. The northbound bridge is slated for demolition in the fall.

The broader $72.17 million improvement project encompasses major updates to the interchange, including widening Route 222 from four to six lanes and replacing the two Route 222 ramp bridges over Route 30. Enhancements also include additional lanes for several ramps and adjustments to improve traffic flow. Work will maintain four open lanes throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to conclude by September 3, 2027.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously near the work zones and anticipate delays during the closures.
