PROSPECT PARK, PA — Northbound Route 420 (Wanamaker Avenue) will face significant disruptions next week as PennDOT begins a new phase of roadway reconstruction tied to a $36 million bridge replacement project spanning Darby Creek in Prospect Park Borough and Tinicum Township.
PennDOT said lane closures on the northbound side of the highway will be in effect on multiple days, affecting access between Interstate 95 and 4th Avenue.
According to the agency, the following restrictions are scheduled:
- Monday, December 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane on northbound Route 420 will be closed between I-95 and 4th Avenue.
- Tuesday, December 9, and Wednesday, December 10, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the next morning, northbound Route 420 will again be reduced to a single lane in the same stretch.
During these shutdowns, southbound travelers on Route 420 will be detoured onto U.S. 13 (Chester Pike), Stewart Avenue, and northbound I-95 to reconnect with the highway.
The work is part of a larger effort to replace two aging structures that carry Route 420 over Darby Creek, a project aimed at improving long-term safety and travel reliability along a heavily traveled corridor.
PennDOT warned drivers to expect delays and to build extra time into their schedules, especially during peak hours.
