PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers along one of North Philadelphia’s busiest corridors should prepare for significant weekday delays as SEPTA begins removing embedded trolley tracks and rebuilding roadway pavement on Germantown Avenue.
Starting at 7:00 AM on Monday, December 8, and continuing through 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, Germantown Avenue will be closed on weekdays between Route 611 (Broad Street) and Pike Street. During the shutdown, eastbound motorists will be detoured via Pike Street, 15th Street, and Butler Street, while westbound drivers will use Butler Street, Broad Street, and Pike Street. Local access will be maintained. All work is weather dependent.
The project is part of SEPTA’s ongoing modernization of its trolley infrastructure, which includes track removal, pavement restoration, and long-term safety improvements along key transit corridors.
Officials are urging motorists to allow extra travel time and prepare for backups throughout the affected area.
