WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of construction activities along I-476 as part of a $63.7 million project to repair, resurface, and enhance nearly 17 miles of the interstate, including its ramps and bridges. The work extends from the I-76 interchange in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to I-95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
Beginning Monday, April 21, and lasting through Friday, April 25, lane closures will affect several critical sections. Nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, closures are scheduled on the ramp from southbound I-476 to Route 3 (Exit 9) and the Route 3 ramp to southbound I-476 in Marple Township, Delaware County. Additionally, weeknight lane closures will occur from April 21 through May 2 on northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges, impacting multiple townships in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
Drivers are advised to plan for extended travel time through these construction zones as delays and backups are expected. All schedules are weather-dependent.
The comprehensive project includes resurfacing lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 structures, addressing stormwater management issues across 21 basins, stabilizing slopes, and upgrading guiderails and signage. H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, PA, serves as the contractor for this federally funded initiative.
The work aims to extend the lifespan of the interstate, enhance road safety, and address deteriorated infrastructure. Construction is expected to conclude in late 2025, delivering significant benefits for one of the region’s most essential travel corridors.
