LOWER PROVIDENCE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Ridge Pike will be reduced to one lane in each direction through January 2027 as part of a $26.2 million infrastructure improvement project designed to enhance traffic flow and safety at the Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County.
Beginning Tuesday, November 4, Ridge Pike will remain limited to a single lane in both directions, operating 24 hours a day between Germantown Pike and Crosskeys Road. PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra time when traveling through the area, as congestion and delays are expected. All work schedules are weather dependent.
The lane reduction marks the transition from utility relocation to Stage 1 construction. The project includes relocating the Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection roughly 1,300 feet east of its current location, where a new signalized intersection will be built. A new Germantown Pike connector road will link Ridge Pike to Germantown Pike and extend southwest to Pechins Mill Road.
Additionally, a roundabout will be constructed at the northern end of the new connector road, allowing River Road to connect directly to Germantown Pike. Other improvements include roadway widening, new turn lanes, and upgraded stormwater drainage systems to support long-term infrastructure stability.
Allan Myers, Inc., of Worcester, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor for the federally funded project.
