PHILADELPHIA, PA — The City of Philadelphia has announced a major roadway and utility construction project that will close a key section of westbound Market Street in Center City beginning Monday, August 4.
The closure will affect westbound lanes between 2nd Street and 6th Street and will remain in place around the clock through Friday, November 17. During this period, westbound drivers will be detoured via Front Street, Arch Street, and 6th Street. Eastbound Market Street will remain open to through traffic.
The construction is expected to cause congestion and delays, particularly during peak travel hours. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the affected area. All work is weather dependent.
This extended closure is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to modernize critical infrastructure and improve roadway conditions in one of Philadelphia’s most heavily trafficked corridors. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and seek alternate routes when possible.
