BRISTOL, PA — A Bucks County locksmith is warning residents that a simple online search during a lockout can quickly turn into an expensive mistake if consumers are not careful about who they call.

Dan Waslenko, owner of Dan’s Lock and Key, a mobile locksmith service based in Bristol, says misleading online listings have become a persistent problem as more people rely on search engines to find emergency services. Searches such as “locksmith near me” often surface ads or listings that appear local but actually route calls to distant call centers.

Those call centers, Waslenko said, frequently dispatch subcontracted technicians with little transparency about pricing, credentials, or response times. By the time a customer realizes what is happening, the technician is already on the way and costs can escalate quickly.

“In a lockout situation, people are stressed and just want the problem solved,” Waslenko said. “That urgency is exactly what these misleading listings rely on.”

Waslenko advises residents to slow down long enough to confirm they are dealing with a legitimate local locksmith. He recommends looking for a verifiable business address, a working local phone number, and a clear description of services. Consumers should also ask direct questions before agreeing to service, including whether the technician is local, what credentials they carry, and whether the price quoted on the phone is the final price.

Ethical locksmiths, he said, should be willing to explain arrival times, service steps, and pricing upfront. A lack of clear answers is often a red flag.

Additional checks can further reduce risk. Waslenko suggests reviewing the company’s website, reading recent customer reviews, and confirming that the name on the service vehicle matches the business name used during the call. These steps can help prevent surprise fees or service disputes after the work is completed.

Dan’s Lock and Key positions itself around transparency and trust, an approach Waslenko says is increasingly important as online marketplaces blur the line between local businesses and national lead-generation networks.

Dan’s Lock and Key is a locally owned mobile locksmith serving Bristol, Pennsylvania, along with Bucks County and Northeast Philadelphia. Founded and operated by Waslenko, the company provides residential, commercial, and automotive locksmith services with a focus on clear communication and reliable local service.
