PHILADELPHIA, PA — For one December morning, the school run came with a stretch limousine and a taste of life as a millionaire.

Mid Penn Bank celebrated the winner of its Millionaire for a Day essay contest with a surprise assembly and classroom celebration at George W. Nebinger Elementary School, honoring a third-grade student whose writing stood out among entries from across the region.

The student, Rosie, was selected as the top essayist in the contest, which invited students in grades one through five in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware counties to write about what they would do if they were a millionaire for a day. As the winner, Rosie received a limousine ride to school, a recognition ceremony, and the equivalent of 90 days’ interest on a $1 million bank balance. Her teacher was awarded $300 for classroom use, and each classmate received a backpack filled with gifts.

Rosie arrived at the school by limousine accompanied by family members and friends and was greeted by classmates, teachers, and bank representatives. The assembly opened with remarks from Principal Ayana Townsend, followed by comments from Abe Ibrahim, Mid Penn Bank’s regional president, who highlighted the importance of encouraging financial awareness at an early age.

Rosie then took the stage alongside her teacher, Brittany Wood, to read her winning essay aloud.

“Rosie’s essay showed not only advanced and creative writing skills but also a generous heart,” Wood said, adding that the student’s ideas about helping others reflected her everyday approach to learning and responsibility in the classroom.

During the program, Mid Penn Bank staff led students in a financial literacy-themed trivia game, awarding gift cards to participants who answered questions correctly. The celebration continued back in the classroom with cupcakes and balloons, turning the recognition into a shared moment for the entire class.

Bank officials said the contest is part of Mid Penn’s MySavings program, an initiative designed to promote financial literacy through age-appropriate education and community engagement. The bank plans to host the Millionaire for a Day essay contest annually each fall.
