Late-Night Lane Closures Coming to I-76: Major Repairs Set to Begin

Traffic, lane closed

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that overnight bridge repair work will begin next week on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) as part of a $41.3 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, its ramps, and more than 20 bridges spanning Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

From Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 14, lane closures will be in effect weeknights from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM in both directions between Walnut Street and the Grays Ferry/University Avenue Exit (346B). In addition, from 8:00 PM Friday, November 7, to 5:00 AM Monday, November 10, a westbound lane closure will take place between the U.S. 1 North (Roosevelt Boulevard) and Lincoln Drive/Kelly Drive interchanges.

PennDOT warns that significant congestion and travel delays are likely during the overnight hours and advises motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time when passing through the work zones. All work is weather dependent.

The ongoing project includes structural repairs, resurfacing, and safety upgrades aimed at improving ride quality and extending the service life of one of the region’s most heavily traveled highways.
