LANCASTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that overnight lane closures will take place this Sunday at the Route 30/222 Interchange in Lancaster County as part of a long-term reconstruction project.
From 9:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, until 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, alternating lane closures will be in effect on both northbound and southbound Route 222 to allow crews to install barriers and complete inlet work in the median. In addition, the right lane of westbound Route 30 will close for pavement marking operations.
The work is part of a $72.2 million effort to overhaul the busy interchange and upgrade a one-mile stretch of Route 222 near Stoner Park. Improvements include widening Route 222 from four lanes to six, adding new lanes to ramps connecting Routes 30, 222, and 272, and replacing two bridges that carry Route 222 ramps over Route 30. The northbound bridge will be expanded to two lanes, while Route 222 under the Eden Road bridge will be lowered to improve clearance.
PennDOT noted that four lanes of traffic will remain open throughout the project, which is scheduled for completion by September 3, 2027.
The contractor for the work is JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Pennsylvania. Motorists are advised to remain alert and use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
