Lane Closures Loom on U.S. 422 as Major Rebuild Presses Forward

Traffic Restrictions

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — PennDOT is warning drivers to prepare for daytime slowdowns next week as roadway reconstruction tightens traffic on a busy stretch of U.S. 422 in Montgomery County.

From Monday through Friday, February 2 to February 6, periodic lane closures will affect both directions of the expressway as crews advance work tied to a massive long-term rebuilding effort. Westbound U.S. 422 will see intermittent lane closures between the Sanatoga (Evergreen Road) and Hanover Street interchanges from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Eastbound drivers will face similar restrictions between the Hanover Street and Sanatoga interchanges from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

PennDOT said motorists should expect backups and delays during work hours and are urged to allow additional travel time when moving through the construction zone. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and may shift based on conditions.

The closures are part of an $83.6 million PennDOT project to reconstruct and modernize approximately 2.1 miles of the U.S. 422 expressway and replace multiple bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road. The work is designed to extend the life of the roadway and improve long-term safety and reliability along a critical commuter corridor.

With lane restrictions poised to ripple across the region, drivers are encouraged to stay informed and plan ahead by visiting the MyChesCo Traffic Center at https://www.mychesco.com/traffic/, where real-time updates, traffic impacts, and alternative route information can help motorists avoid costly delays.
