CHELTENHAM TWP, PA — Daytime drivers on Route 611 should prepare for delays starting next week as PennDOT begins safety upgrades along a busy stretch of Old York Road in Montgomery County.
PennDOT announced that sign and delineator installations will take place on Route 611 between Academy Lane and Stahr Road as part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing lane-departure crashes, which remain a leading cause of fatal and serious injuries across the five-county Philadelphia region.
Weekday lane closures in both directions are scheduled from Thursday, January 8, through Thursday, January 22, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays during the work period and advised drivers to allow extra travel time. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The improvements are designed to enhance visibility and driver awareness, particularly in areas where roadway geometry and traffic patterns have contributed to lane-departure incidents.
Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester is serving as the general contractor on the $3.5 million project, which is funded entirely with federal dollars.
With nearly two weeks of daytime lane restrictions planned on a key north-south corridor, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and stay informed.
