Lane Closures Hit Lancaster Avenue as PennDOT Rolls Out New Safety Signs

Traffic Restrictions

LOWER MERION TWP, PA — Drivers on one of Montgomery County’s busiest corridors should prepare for daytime delays next week as PennDOT begins installing new traffic safety signage along U.S. 30 in Lower Merion Township.

PennDOT announced that sign installation will take place on Lancaster Avenue between Indian Creek Lane and Woodcircle Drive from Friday, January 16, through Friday, January 23. The work will require weekday lane closures in both directions from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The project is part of a regionwide initiative to reduce lane-departure crashes, which are among the leading causes of fatal and serious injuries across the five-county Philadelphia area. The new signs are designed to improve driver awareness and help prevent vehicles from drifting out of their travel lanes.

PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays through the work zone and advised drivers to allow extra travel time. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester is serving as the general contractor on the $3.5 million project, which is funded entirely with federal dollars.

With nearly a full week of daytime lane restrictions planned on a heavily traveled stretch of Lancaster Avenue, drivers are urged to plan ahead and stay informed.
