Business News

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The John Templeton Foundation announced today that Dr. Timothy Dalrymple will assume the role of president and CEO on July 31, 2025. His appointment follows a global search and ushers in a new chapter of leadership for the Foundation, which is renowned for supporting interdisciplinary research and fostering conversations that inspire awe and wonder.

Dr. Dalrymple, a distinguished leader at the intersection of faith, media, and culture, joins the Foundation from Christianity Today, where he has served as CEO. During his tenure, he led a significant transformation of the organization, expanding its global reach, innovating in new media, and restoring financial stability amidst challenges in the journalism industry. A former national champion gymnast turned philosopher of religion, Dalrymple holds degrees from Stanford University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Harvard University, where his doctoral research explored the nature of suffering and religious understanding.

“The questions that animate the John Templeton Foundation are the same questions that have inspired me for as long as I can remember,” Dalrymple said. “The Foundation’s mission is more than intellectually rigorous; it’s soul-stirring. We live in a world hungry for purpose, where the lines between science, spirituality, and moral imagination are converging in new ways. The insights we gain and decisions we make in the next ten years could have profound civilizational effects. I’m deeply honored to serve the John Templeton Foundation at the center of those conversations.”

Dalrymple will succeed Heather Templeton Dill, who has served as president since 2015. Dill’s decade-long tenure at the helm marked a significant period of growth for the Foundation, including the expansion of its global influence, the launch of key initiatives, and a sharpened focus on intellectual humility, religious pluralism, and research aimed at strengthening individuals and communities. She will step down in June 2025, adhering to the Foundation’s policy of a 10-year term limit for its presidents.

Reflecting on her time in leadership, Dill stated, “It has been a privilege to serve the Foundation and my grandfather’s vision. I am delighted to see that work carried forward by new leadership. Congratulations to Tim as our next president and CEO. His broad intellect and his commitment to the mission articulated by Sir John Templeton make him a thoughtful steward of that legacy. The Foundation will thrive under his leadership. I couldn’t be happier about this transition.”

Leigh Cameron, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the John Templeton Foundation, expressed confidence in Dalrymple’s appointment. “Tim’s appointment marks an exciting next chapter for the Foundation,” Cameron said. “His curiosity, passion for thoughtful inquiry, and experience spanning scholarship, entrepreneurship, and organizational leadership will help us deepen our impact.”

The months ahead will see the Foundation’s leadership team working closely with Dalrymple to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining continuity across current initiatives. Dr. Dalrymple’s vision and expertise are expected to play a pivotal role in steering the Foundation’s mission as it positions itself for its next phase of influence and innovation.
