WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) will debut its latest video innovations at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam from September 12–15, highlighting advances in Versatile Video Coding (VVC) paired with film grain preservation technology.
The company will demonstrate its solutions at the Ultra HD Forum booth, in collaboration with Media Coding Industry Forum partners. The showcase focuses on how VVC, also known as H.266, can combine superior compression efficiency with advanced film grain analysis and synthesis to deliver premium, cinema-quality streaming experiences.
Film grain has long been a critical tool for filmmakers, adding texture and depth to visual storytelling. Preserving that detail in compressed streaming environments has proven difficult. InterDigital’s framework aims to address this challenge by retaining artistic authenticity while reducing bandwidth demands.
VVC, finalized in 2020, is widely regarded as the successor to HEVC. It delivers up to 50 percent bitrate savings without sacrificing perceptual quality, making it especially suitable for 4K, 8K, immersive 360-degree video, and 3D formats. Additional features, such as sub-pictures for independent decoding, reference picture resampling for flexible resolution adaptation, and layered coding for VR/AR applications, further position VVC as a cornerstone for the next era of video delivery.
By integrating film grain preservation with VVC’s efficiency, InterDigital aims to give content creators and distributors the tools to provide streaming that mirrors cinema quality while optimizing network performance.
Visitors to IBC 2025 can view demonstrations at the Ultra HD Forum booth in Hall 14 (14.C11), where InterDigital and its partners will illustrate how VVC is being adopted as the industry standard for next-generation video streaming at scale.
