WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) announced that Samir Ferdi has been named the company’s Inventor of the Year, recognizing his contributions to wireless standards and network security research.
The company said the annual award honors inventors whose patented technologies and standards work have had an impact on global communications systems.
Ferdi joined InterDigital in 2007 and has contributed to the development of 4G and 5G technologies, including vehicle-to-everything communications, device-to-device connectivity, unmanned aerial vehicle systems and cellular network security. His work supports applications in smartphones, Internet of Things devices and connected vehicles.
He has also been an active contributor for eight years to 3GPP’s SA3 working group, which focuses on security and privacy standards for wireless networks. His work has centered on securing next-generation networks and addressing emerging threats as the industry advances toward 6G, the company said.
Chief Executive Officer Liren Chen said Ferdi’s work has influenced standards development and strengthened the company’s wireless research portfolio. “His ability to identify critical challenges early, develop practical and forward-looking solutions, and drive their adoption in global standards bodies has strengthened our leadership in wireless research,” Chen said.
Chief Technology Officer Rajesh Pankaj said Ferdi’s work in security and connectivity standards reflects the company’s focus on foundational technologies. “Samir’s leadership in security, intelligent connectivity, and standards engagement exemplifies our mission to invent foundational technologies,” Pankaj said.
