WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) has initiated patent infringement litigation against Hisense and TCL in multiple jurisdictions, alleging unauthorized use of video compression and high dynamic range technologies, the company announced.
InterDigital said the patents at issue relate to HEVC, VP9 and AV1 video compression standards, as well as high dynamic range, or HDR, technologies. The company stated the claims are primarily connected to its joint television licensing program with Sony.
According to InterDigital, cases have been filed at the Munich Local Division of the Unified Patent Court and the Munich Regional Court in Germany, as well as in the Rio de Janeiro State Court in Brazil and the Delhi High Court in India.
Josh Schmidt, chief legal officer of InterDigital, said the company is seeking to enforce its intellectual property rights and noted that other television manufacturers have entered into licensing agreements.
Hisense and TCL are among the largest global television manufacturers.
InterDigital develops and licenses wireless, video and related technologies and is headquartered in Wilmington.
