InterDigital Acquires Deep Render to Accelerate AI-Driven Video Compression

WILMINGTON, DEInterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) announced the acquisition of Deep Render, a London-based artificial intelligence startup specializing in AI-powered video and image compression, in a move aimed at strengthening its leadership in next-generation video technologies.

The deal brings Deep Render’s advanced AI video coding patents and research capabilities under InterDigital’s umbrella, adding to its extensive portfolio in video compression standards such as HEVC and VVC. A team of Deep Render’s engineers and researchers will join InterDigital’s Video Lab, expanding the company’s in-house expertise in AI-native video development.

Founded in 2018, Deep Render has been at the forefront of integrating AI into video compression, developing algorithms that significantly reduce bandwidth requirements while maintaining visual fidelity. The technology aims to transform how video is processed and distributed across digital platforms and connected devices.

Rajesh Pankaj, InterDigital’s Chief Technology Officer, said the acquisition “positions the company to lead the development of the next generations of video technologies.” He added that InterDigital has long placed AI at the core of its research to improve network efficiency and reshape digital content delivery.
