BRYN MAWR, PA — A first-of-its-kind eye spa has opened on the Main Line, blending medical eye care with aesthetic rejuvenation in a setting designed to treat one of the most common — and often overlooked — chronic conditions affecting Americans.
See La Vie Eyecare & Eyewear has launched the region’s first spa devoted exclusively to dry eye disease and ocular aesthetics at 851 West Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr. The new offering is aimed at patients seeking relief from persistent eye irritation as well as those looking to refresh the appearance of the eyes and surrounding skin.
An estimated 30 million Americans are living with undiagnosed dry eye disease, according to industry estimates. Founder and optometrist Dr. Kayla Volkert said the condition is frequently misunderstood and undertreated.
“Dry eye isn’t just about feeling ‘dry’ or gritty,” Volkert said. “It’s a chronic, often progressive condition that affects the surface of the eyes, the health of the eyelids, and surrounding skin. Our spa offers customized treatments that blend advanced technology with restorative care, all delivered in a calming environment.”
Unlike traditional approaches that rely on artificial tears or prescription drops for short-term relief, treatment at See La Vie begins with an in-depth diagnostic evaluation. Patients undergo high-resolution imaging of tear glands and the ocular surface, along with vital dye staining to identify tear instability and tissue damage. From there, individualized treatment plans may include eyelid cleansing, gland heating, therapeutic massage, and deep cleaning of eyelid margins to restore healthier tear function.
The practice’s signature Eye Rejuvenation Treatment pairs two advanced technologies — OptiLight and OptiLift — designed to address both eye health and appearance. OptiLight IPL Therapy is currently the only FDA-approved light therapy for dry eye. Pulses of light applied around the eyes are used to reduce inflammation, minimize redness and abnormal blood vessels, target mites and bacteria linked to blepharitis, and brighten the eye area.
OptiLift works beneath the surface using Dynamic Muscle Stimulation and low-level radiofrequency to tone and lift the orbicularis oculi muscle, which supports eyelid function and blink mechanics.
“The happy side effect is that it improves sagging, droopy eyelids,” Volkert said. “It’s an excellent option for patients with early signs of eyelid laxity and heaviness who are not ready for blepharoplasty.”
Both treatments take about 30 minutes, are non-invasive, and require no downtime. Each procedure is priced at $1,500 for a package of four sessions.
Beyond the spa services, See La Vie offers a full spectrum of individualized eye care, including comprehensive eye exams using advanced screening tools, medical management of conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, myopia management for children, and specialty contact lens fittings.
The practice also features a curated selection of independent eyewear designers from around the world, including Matsuda and Götti, with frames chosen for craftsmanship and design.
“I want to be the Main Line’s primary resource for customized eyecare as well as ocular aesthetic wellness,” Volkert said. “My passion is to help people look, see, and feel their best, and I’m excited to do just that in this community.”
