PHILADELPHIA, PA — Inoxoft has unveiled WhiteLightning, a new open-source command-line interface (CLI) tool designed to bring fast, efficient, and completely offline text classification to developers working on edge devices and embedded systems.
The release marks a significant step toward making natural language processing (NLP) more accessible in environments where cloud access, power, or connectivity are limited. WhiteLightning’s compact design—models come in under 1MB—and its ability to run entirely on local hardware without cloud APIs or large language models (LLMs) at runtime are key differentiators.
Built over a year by Inoxoft’s AI and ML teams, WhiteLightning uses a teacher-student distillation process that leverages LLM-generated synthetic data to train lightweight ONNX models. These models can then run across various platforms, including Python, Rust, Swift, Node.js, and Dart, without external dependencies.
“WhiteLightning gives developers full control over NLP, without the need for massive infrastructure,” said Liubomyr Pohreliuk, CEO of Inoxoft. “It’s fast, privacy-safe, and built to be deployed anywhere—from mobile apps to routers to Raspberry Pis.”
Why It Matters
WhiteLightning addresses a growing demand for decentralized, cost-efficient AI. Unlike cloud-based NLP tools, it requires only a single training pass using a large model—estimated at one cent per task—while eliminating ongoing API fees and potential data exposure.
Its small footprint makes it ideal for use in mobile apps, industrial controllers, or devices with minimal computational resources. The models are fast enough to process thousands of inputs per second on standard CPUs, and all processing remains fully offline, protecting sensitive data and ensuring reliability.
Key Technical Features
- Edge-ready deployment: Works seamlessly on minimal hardware with no cloud dependency.
- Cross-language support: Compatible with Rust, Swift, Python, Dart, and Node.js.
- Docker-native CLI: Streamlined workflow using a single command to generate classifiers.
- CI/CD integration: Built-in GitHub Actions, test matrices, and secure API handling.
- Developer-first design: No Python dependencies and secure environment-variable API management.
WhiteLightning is not a hosted SaaS product but a fully offline tool, distributed as a Docker container with GPL-3.0 licensing for the tool and MIT licensing for generated models. It’s backed by a community-led roadmap, with support and collaboration facilitated via Discord and public GitHub repositories.
For developers building NLP solutions in privacy-sensitive or infrastructure-limited environments, WhiteLightning offers a compelling alternative to bulky cloud-based systems—compact, fast, and under their full control.
