Drivers should expect backups and delays through the work zone and are urged to plan extra time or seek alternate routes, especially during late-night and early-morning travel.

The work is part of a $261.5 million, multi-phase project to rehabilitate the 5,183-foot Girard Point Bridge and surrounding structures between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street. Improvements include resurfacing the bridge deck, repairing structural components, upgrading lighting and drainage systems, and modernizing traffic management technology.

PennDOT officials said three lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during peak hours as construction continues this spring. Additional lane restrictions will occur during off-peak and weekend periods, coordinated with major regional events in South Philadelphia.
