PHILADELPHIA, PA — Late-night drivers heading from westbound I-76 to City Avenue should prepare for a temporary ramp shutdown next week that could disrupt overnight travel.
PennDOT announced that the first ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will be closed from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM on Thursday, February 26, and Friday, February 27. The closure is part of a $41.3 million resurfacing and bridge improvement project affecting nearly five miles of interstate in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township.
During the ramp closure, motorists will be directed to continue west on I-76 and use the second ramp to U.S. 1 South (City Avenue/Exit 339). Drivers should follow posted signage and expect merging traffic near the alternate ramp.
Significant backups are possible, especially as vehicles reroute at the last moment. Plan extra time if traveling overnight through the Schuylkill corridor and consider alternate routes if your destination is along City Avenue.
All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions change.
