Alliance for Decision Education

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Alliance for Decision Education has appointed Howard Marks, co-chairman and co-founder of Oaktree Capital Management, to its Board of Directors, effective September 15, 2025.

Marks, a widely respected investor and author, is recognized for his insights on risk management, market psychology, and strategic decision-making. His widely read memos and three published books have become essential resources for business leaders and investors.

“If we can teach people to make high-quality decisions, they’ll have better lives and they’ll contribute to better communities, benefitting all of us,” Marks said. “My career has been based on analyzing problems and making rational decisions. It’s fun and satisfying and it works. In addition, I’m all-in on educating the young. The Alliance for Decision Education can help by advancing both objectives.”

Founded to promote decision-making as a critical life skill, the Alliance for Decision Education works to integrate decision education into K–12 classrooms across the country. The organization argues that teaching students to understand cognitive biases, uncertainty, and risk leads to better outcomes in school, work, and life.

Annie Duke, co-founder of the Alliance, said Marks’s appointment brings unmatched expertise. “Howard’s perspective on how cognitive biases and market psychology impact decision-making will be invaluable as we work to bring Decision Education to students everywhere,” she said. “Having someone of his caliber and experience join our mission to improve how people think about choices and uncertainty is truly exciting for the future of Decision Education.”
