BUCKS COUNTY, PA —The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced upcoming construction activities on U.S. 1 and Rockhill Drive in Bensalem and Middletown townships as part of a $116 million project to reconstruct, widen, and improve a three-mile stretch of U.S. 1.
From Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27, construction will take place overnight, causing lane closures in both directions from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning. Specific work zones include Rockhill Drive between Neshaminy Boulevard and Old Lincoln Highway, where flaggers will direct traffic for paving operations. Additionally, lane closures will occur on U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Hulmeville Road for paving and a traffic shift.
Southbound U.S. 1 traffic will be fully relocated to completed southbound lanes prior to the paving work. This shift marks a significant milestone in PennDOT’s ongoing efforts to modernize the heavily traveled corridor.
Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays and are encouraged to plan additional time for commutes. PennDOT emphasized that all scheduled activities are weather dependent and may be adjusted if necessary.
This work is part of the larger U.S. 1/RC2 contract that seeks to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and expand capacity on this critical transportation route. Once complete, the upgrades will support smoother travel for residents and commuters alike. Drivers are advised to remain alert and follow detour signage while navigating the construction zones.
