READING, PA — Penske Truck Rental has released its 15th annual Top Moving Destinations list, spotlighting the top 10 U.S. cities where one-way truck rentals were most popular in 2024. The company also unveiled findings from its Settling In: A Consumer Moving Trends Survey, providing deeper insight into the reasons driving relocation decisions.
For the fourth consecutive year, Houston, Texas claimed the number one spot, followed by Atlanta, Georgia, which climbed to second place. Notably, Chicago rejoined the list for the first time since 2021, securing the eighth position. The 2024 rankings reflect the ongoing migration toward the Sun Belt, with multiple cities in Texas and Florida featured in the top 10.

The accompanying consumer survey revealed that 82% of participants saw moving as a fresh start, and 56% described the moving process positively. Reasons for relocating included being closer to loved ones (28%), better job opportunities (27%), and lower living costs (23%).
“Each year, the Top Moving Destinations list helps track relocation trends and guide how we support customers across the country,” said Kevin Malloy, Penske Truck Rental’s senior vice president. “In 2024, we saw people moving with clear intent—driven by lifestyle fit, space, or location. As we look ahead, Penske continues to provide the tools and resources they need to move confidently—and we’re here to support those planning their next move, wherever they’re headed.”
Additional findings from the survey show that 67% of movers reported positive impacts on their overall well-being. Self-driven truck rentals remained the preferred choice for 69%, with family and friends playing a key role in helping with the transition.
