SOUDERTON, PA — Godshall’s Quality Meats has introduced Chicken Bacon, a new product aimed at health-conscious consumers seeking a leaner alternative to traditional pork bacon. Crafted from premium whole muscle chicken and smoked in the company’s own smokehouse, the innovation reflects both shifting dietary trends and growing demand for versatile protein options.

The product made its debut in August at Lowes Foods in the Carolinas and is now expanding to more than 200 Acme and Safeway stores across the Mid-Atlantic. Wider distribution is expected later this year as Godshall’s pursues additional retail partnerships.

Chicken Bacon contains 75 percent less fat than pork bacon and is gluten- and MSG-free. Made from cage-free, U.S.-raised chickens, it is smoked with real wood rather than artificial flavoring. The company emphasizes that the product aligns with consumer demand for lean proteins and transparency in ingredients.

Recent survey results suggest strong potential for market adoption. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said they find Chicken Bacon appealing, with more than half expressing intent to purchase. Among Gen Z and Millennial shoppers—segments driving health-oriented purchasing—58 percent indicated interest. Turkey bacon buyers showed the highest enthusiasm, with 85 percent reporting appeal and a willingness to pay a premium.

Beyond retail, Godshall’s sees opportunities in foodservice, noting that the product’s consistent texture and authentic smoke flavor make it suitable for a wide range of menu applications. It can be prepared in an oven, air fryer, or microwave, and used across breakfast dishes, sandwiches, and salads.
