MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The Resilience Resource Center (RRC), a Lower Moreland Township nonprofit serving LGBTQ communities across the Philadelphia region, received a $20,000 grant from the Gender Justice Fund’s Trans Resilience Fund to expand integrated programming for trans and gender-expansive individuals, including mental health care, career coaching, personal styling, and intervention supports.
The grant includes SEPTA transit cards to reduce access barriers. “We want to remove the barriers to care and make sure new people are aware of us,” said Dana Newman, RRC’s communications director. The center, founded in June 2023 and located a five-minute walk from the Bethayres station, has nearly quadrupled its safe-space footprint since opening the site in October 2023 and has partnered with schools, health providers, and advocacy groups.
Gender Justice Fund Executive Director Farrah Parkes said the committee was encouraged by RRC’s suburban location and trans leadership. “There’s an awareness that while there are gaps everywhere, trans folks outside of Philly are having a particularly hard time accessing services,” she said. The fund—whose roots trace to the New Century Guild—has distributed more than $800,000 through the Trans Resilience Fund since 2021.
RRC also secured support from the Tigris Foundation for its Art for Resilience youth program, a series of guided workshops culminating in a November showcase. The new funding follows RRC’s participation in a summer roundtable with Gov. Josh Shapiro on school safety, underscoring the center’s growing role as a regional hub for LGBTQ services in Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties.
