FS Launches Ultra High-Density WDM Platform for Next-Gen Network Demands

Business News

NEW CASTLE, DE — FS has introduced its new FTD Series, an ultra high-density WDM platform designed to address the growing need for compact, scalable, and flexible optical transport solutions. With support for up to nine plug-in modules in just 1U of rack space, the FTD Series is tailored for data centers, carrier networks, and enterprise deployments facing increased pressure from cloud, AI, and edge computing workloads.

As demand for higher capacity and service granularity continues to rise, network operators are seeking infrastructure that maximizes efficiency without expanding physical footprint. The FTD Series aims to meet these requirements with a modular architecture that supports multiple WDM technologies, making it easier to consolidate diverse wavelengths and adapt to future network growth.

The platform includes 22 different Mux Demux configurations supporting DWDM, CWDM, LANWDM, and OWDM, as well as FWDM filters and CEx WDM modules. The new design achieves a 125% increase in integration density over previous systems, allowing users to scale networks without major hardware overhauls.

Key features of the FTD Series include:

  • Multi-Technology Support: Integrates DWDM, CWDM, LANWDM, OWDM, FWDM, and CEx WDM modules for flexible deployment.
  • Ultra-Compact Footprint: Houses up to nine modules in a 1U chassis, maximizing space efficiency.
  • Passive, Maintenance-Free Operation: Requires no power or cooling, offering lower total cost of ownership.
  • Front-Access Plug-and-Play Design: Enables quick installation and simplified maintenance.
  • Future-Ready Scalability: Allows dynamic module swaps or additions in response to evolving network demands.
  • Broad Compatibility: Supports Ethernet (400G/100G/10G/1G), SDH/SONET, Fibre Channel, and more, suitable for DCI, CATV, enterprise, campus, and FTTx applications.

“The FTD Series is a high-density, flexible, and scalable passive WDM platform that delivers the latest generation of wavelength division solutions,” said Bener Peng, product R&D manager at FS. “Built with top-tier optical components, it emphasizes operational simplicity, compactness, and versatility.”

Peng added that the system is fully compliant with ITU-T optical grid standards and is interoperable with FS’s broader optical transport products and third-party equipment.

With this release, FS continues its focus on innovation in optical networking, aiming to help customers meet future bandwidth needs while minimizing operational complexity and infrastructure investment.
