Frankford Avenue Closure Set to Snarl Traffic as Sewer Work Begins

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A busy stretch of Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia will be closed during daytime hours next week as sewer improvement work gets underway, raising the prospect of traffic delays in the surrounding neighborhoods.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said the Philadelphia Water Department will begin sewer improvements on Tuesday, February 17, triggering a weekday closure of Frankford Avenue between Montgomery Avenue and Palmer Street.

From Tuesday, February 17, through Tuesday, February 24, the roadway will be closed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each weekday. During the closure, drivers will be detoured via Palmer Street, Front Street, Norris Street, and Memphis Street.

PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays near the work zone and along the detour routes, particularly during peak daytime travel hours. All scheduled work is weather dependent and could change if conditions worsen.
