PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway, in partnership with Flyers Charities and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, has unveiled Engine 19 IPA, a new citrus-forward pale ale created to benefit first responders and their families through Hathaway’s Hath’s Heroes initiative.

Brewing With Purpose

The 6.5% ABV beer was developed over the course of a year with Dogfish Head, known for its off-centered brewing style. Engine 19 IPA combines Simcoe, Chinook, and Citra hops to deliver notes of pine and citrus, complemented by flavors of passion fruit, toffee, and biscuit. Hathaway and Dogfish Head said the recipe was inspired by themes of community, connection, and celebration.

“This isn’t just a beer, it’s a way to support the people who show up for our communities day in and day out,” Hathaway said. Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione called the collaboration “one heck of a beer that not only tastes good, but it does good.”

To give fans a behind-the-scenes view of the project, the Flyers’ in-house media team released Engine 19: Behind the Beer on the team’s official YouTube channel. The video traces the process from early brewery sessions and taste testing to packaging and community outreach.

Blair Listino, chair of Flyers Charities, noted the importance of the initiative. “Engine 19 IPA is a perfect example of how we can create meaningful community impact while honoring Garnet’s commitment to first responders,” she said.

An official launch party will take place on Wednesday, September 10, at PHS Beer Garden South Street in Philadelphia from 6 to 8 p.m. The free event will feature Engine 19 samples, Flyers raffle prizes, and appearances by players and team personalities.
