DENVER, PA — Morphy Auctions’ May 13-15 firearms event brought in a total of $6,740,000, driven by competitive bidding on high-value military, civilian, and sporting firearms. The event, held at the auction house’s flagship gallery in Denver, Pennsylvania, attracted strong interest, particularly in NFA weapons.
Topping the sale was a Fabrique Nationale U.S. M240B machine gun, a rare specimen verified as fully transferable. The gun, in near-mint condition, included its original tripod and shipping box, with its consignor confirming it had never been fired. Dan Morphy, president of Morphy Auctions, described the piece as “a tremendous example that would be all but impossible to upgrade.” The machine gun sold for $467,400, landing near the midpoint of its pre-sale estimate.
Another standout was a Heckler & Koch MP5SD3 machine gun, manufactured in 1984 and complete with an HK silencer. With its factory-original condition and documentation confirming its full transferability, the firearm achieved $96,000, far surpassing its $40,000-$60,000 estimate.
High-quality craftsmanship also drew attention, including a circa-2009 Westley Richards Droplock .470 Double Rifle. Featuring intricate engravings of big game by artisan Peter Spode and accompanied by a custom case, the rifle realized $96,000, well above its estimate of $45,000-$65,000.
Historical firearms performed admirably, exemplified by a cased set of Colt revolvers from the Civil War era. The set, which included an 1860 fluted Army Revolver and an 1862 Police Revolver presented to Colonel Henry Craig, sold for $116,850.
Edged weapons remained in demand, with a signed World War II-era sword by Japanese smith Masataka commanding $49,200, doubling its $18,000-$25,000 estimate.
The sale reinforced Morphy Auctions’ reputation for sourcing rare and remarkable collectibles. “Every piece in this auction was handpicked for its historical or design significance,” said Morphy.
The event underscored the enduring appeal of fine firearms and edged weapons among collectors, achieving impressive results across categories.
