FinServ Foundation

PHILADELPHIA, PA — FinServ Foundation has appointed two prominent industry leaders to its board of directors, strengthening its push to develop and retain the next generation of financial services professionals.

The foundation named Erin Wood, senior vice president of advanced planning at AssetMark, and Brian Hamburger, founder and chief executive officer of MarketCounsel, to its board. The appointments come as the organization expands its national footprint amid rising concerns about talent pipelines and long-term workforce sustainability in financial services.

Jamie Hopkins, president and chairman of FinServ Foundation, said the additions bring seasoned leadership and strategic perspective at a pivotal moment for the profession. He said both appointees have built careers around strengthening advisory practices and investing in long-term industry impact, directly aligning with the foundation’s mission.

FinServ Foundation focuses on coaching, mentorship, and scholarships for students and early-career professionals entering financial services. The organization collaborates with more than 52 colleges and universities and supports more than 700 FinServ Fellows, with an emphasis on retention through education, exposure, and professional development.

Its fellowship program provides two years of group coaching and a six-month structured mentorship experience for emerging leaders. The foundation also funds conference attendance, sending more than 200 students to industry events over the past year to broaden their exposure to trends and build professional networks.

Wood brings more than two decades of experience spanning advisory firm ownership and enterprise leadership. At AssetMark, she leads innovation across advanced planning solutions, strategic partnerships, and a national team supporting high-net-worth clients. She previously served as head of financial planning and advanced solutions at Carson Group and has been recognized for her thought leadership, including honors from WealthManagement and InvestmentNews. Her work has appeared in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and Kiplinger.

Wood said sustaining the profession requires intentional investment in future leaders, calling FinServ Foundation’s approach practical and measurable.

Hamburger leads MarketCounsel, a strategic and regulatory consulting firm serving independent advisors, registered investment advisers, and fintech companies. He is widely regarded as an authority on advisory firm strategy, compliance, and mergers and acquisitions, having advised thousands of firms on growth and governance.

Hamburger said the foundation is tackling one of the industry’s most pressing challenges by building a structured pathway for emerging professionals.

With the new appointments, FinServ Foundation said it is positioned to accelerate its mission as demand grows for programs that prepare, connect, and retain the next generation of financial services leaders.
