WILMINGTON, DE — Farmers of Salem, a regional mutual insurance company specializing in coverage for homes and businesses, is celebrating Loraine Lester, AVP of Product & Underwriting Development, for her remarkable ten-year career with the company and her significant contributions to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC). Through her passion and dedication, Loraine has not only thrived in her professional role but has also left a profound impact in her community.
Supporting the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition
Loraine’s connection to DBCC began in 2016 when, after relocating to Delaware, she struggled to find the right oncologist following her first breast cancer diagnosis. A pamphlet from DBCC introduced her to an organization that would significantly shape her personal and volunteer life. “This organization has been there in my good times, when my cancer went into remission, and in the bad times, when I was diagnosed with a reoccurrence that progressed to Stage IV. I have developed a network of survivors who have been through the same process as me. We share our war stories and compare notes,” Loraine shared.
Since then, her involvement with DBCC has grown. Loraine is a committee member for the Lights of Life Gala, an annual event supporting DBCC. Acting as the backstage manager for the Survivor Showcase segment, she ensures smooth coordination of survivors and their escorts, while also assisting with event setup, decorations, and logistics. The next Lights of Life Gala is scheduled for March 7, 2026, at Bally’s in Dover, Delaware.
Additionally, Loraine serves as a peer mentor in DBCC’s Peer Mentor Program, supporting newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with similar diagnoses. “I’ve been fortunate to meet and help many mentees over the years. Once we are trained, we are matched with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients that have a similar diagnosis to ours. We are, basically, an outlet for support, a shoulder to cry on, and a resource for the individual to fully understand all that DBCC can provide the survivor on their cancer journey,” she explained.
Loraine also benefits from DBCC’s services, including the Nurture with Nature program, which helps survivors find healing and connection through nature, and support groups for metastatic survivors and young survivors. “The Nurture with Nature service is one of my favorites. This program allows cancer survivors to come together to be nurtured and healed by experiencing the power, beauty, and serenity of nature,” Loraine commented.
