Fall-Prevention Tech Targets Senior Living as ActiveProtective, Plymouth Place Team Up

Business News

LA GRANGE, IL & CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — ActiveProtective announced a new partnership with Plymouth Place, a continuing care retirement community in the Chicago suburbs, bringing its Tango Belt fall-protection technology to residents as part of a broader push to improve safety, mobility, and independence among older adults.

The collaboration will begin with an educational rollout for residents and family members in Plymouth Place’s Independent Living community, with expansion planned for Assisted Living and Memory Care starting in early January. The initiative is being introduced under the theme “Let’s Tango through the New Year – New Protective Technology.”

Plymouth Place officials said the phased rollout aligns with the community’s strategy of adopting technology that reduces fall-related injuries while supporting residents’ ability to remain active and independent. Falls remain one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, particularly hip fractures, which often lead to hospitalization and long-term declines in mobility.

Plymouth Management Services, which supports Plymouth Place and other senior living communities, is expected to play a central role in evaluating and potentially extending the technology across its broader portfolio. The organization said the partnership reflects its focus on evidence-based solutions that enhance resident safety while maintaining operational efficiency.

The Tango Belt is an FDA-authorized wearable medical device designed to protect at-risk older adults from hip fractures caused by falls. Using sensors to detect a serious fall in progress, the belt rapidly deploys an airbag to cushion the hips before impact. The device is intended for daily wear and includes a companion app that can automatically notify caregivers and family members when a fall occurs.

ActiveProtective Chief Executive Officer Wamis Singhatat said the partnership reflects a shared view that innovation in senior care must balance safety with independence. He said bringing the Tango Belt to Plymouth Place allows residents to move more confidently while reducing the risk of serious injury.

Plymouth Place Chief Executive Officer Jay Biere said the community views the technology as part of a broader commitment to proactive, resident-centered care. He said integrating fall-injury mitigation into daily life supports safer aging in place while giving residents and families added peace of mind.

The partnership comes as senior living providers increasingly look to technology to address safety challenges posed by an aging population, rising healthcare costs, and growing expectations for independence later in life.
