PHILADELPHIA, PA — Evil Genius Beer Company is betting big on the spooky season with the launch of its first Halloween pop-up, the “Taphouse of Horrors.” Running from October 2 through November 2, with previews beginning September 27, the immersive takeover transforms the Fishtown taproom into a multi-zone haunted spectacle of horror themes, seasonal brews, and theatrical food and drink experiences.
The brewery has divided the space into seven themed zones, ranging from a Witch’s Lair filled with bubbling cauldrons to Frankenstein’s Laboratory, where bartenders mix Halloween cocktails amid props of failed experiments and monster remains. Signature offerings include the return of Evil Genius’ seasonal brew, “Trick or Treat,” a Chocolate Pumpkin Porter spiced with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and allspice. Specialty cocktails like the Hellfire Mule and Poison Apple will share the menu with themed snacks such as mummy dogs, coffin flatbreads, and cemetery dirt pudding.
Co-founder Trevor Hayward described the pop-up as a community-focused destination, saying, “We set out to make this a true neighborhood destination where everyone can come together and celebrate one of the most fun seasons of the year. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience and we can’t wait for you to see all the little details.”
The concept was developed by Sean Reed, the creative mind behind last year’s Harry Potter pop-up at The Ridley House. Reed said guests should expect “over 200 horror movie posters, interactive animatronics, and shrines to their favorite horror movies complete with masks, memorabilia, and atmosphere.”
Evil Genius will also host two themed drag brunches during the run: A Brunch of Hocus Pocus on October 12 and Slayed: A Horror Movie Drag Brunch on November 2. Both events start at $20 per person.
Located at 1727 N. Front Street, the pop-up requires no admission fee. Seating is first-come, first-served, and food and drink are pay-as-you-go. With its family-friendly setup and dog-friendly beer garden, the Taphouse of Horrors aims to cement itself as Philadelphia’s Halloween hot spot.
