BRYN MAWR, PA — Essential Utilities Inc. (NYSE: WTRG) has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Most Charitable Companies, recognizing its corporate philanthropy efforts through the Essential Foundation, the company announced.
The recognition comes as the company reported nearly $7.2 million in community giving in 2025, along with 4,900 volunteer hours contributed by more than 1,250 employees.
Chief Executive Officer Christopher Franklin said the company’s charitable work is supported by both employee volunteer efforts and foundation funding.
“Our commitment to our communities begins with our dedicated team members who volunteer thousands of hours of their time,” Franklin said, adding that foundation contributions also support local initiatives.
Essential Utilities said its charitable efforts include programs such as United Way campaigns, food bank support initiatives, environmental activities tied to Earth Day, and public safety support programs.
Since 2020, following the merger of Aqua and Peoples Natural Gas, the company said it has donated more than $29 million across its nine-state service area.
Newsweek’s ranking was developed in collaboration with data provider Statista and evaluates companies based on philanthropic contributions and related metrics.
Essential Utilities provides water, wastewater, and natural gas services to approximately 5.5 million people across nine states.
