BRYN MAWR, PA — Essential Utilities Inc. (NYSE: WTRG) has been recognized as a 2025 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, in partnership with Points of Light, the Philadelphia Foundation, and other regional collaborators. The award celebrates companies that set the standard for civic engagement through dedicated community investment and volunteerism.
The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honors organizations that excel across four categories: investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems, and impact measurement. Honorees must operate within the region and employ at least 10 people.
Essential Utilities stood out for its broad community initiatives, including an annual $2 million investment through the Essential Foundation. The company integrates civic engagement deeply into its mission, especially in environmental protection and the safe delivery of essential resources.
Programs such as a paid volunteer initiative and a matching gift program reflect Essential’s strong internal culture of service. The company also tracks outcomes of its charitable campaigns, focusing on environmental stewardship, food insecurity, and water safety.
“Whether through our work to deliver vital resources safely and reliably, or volunteering to improve our communities, Essential Utilities focuses daily on finding ways to make a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives,” said Christopher Franklin, Essential’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “This honor would not be possible without the tireless work of our Essential team, and we’re humbled to see their efforts recognized by the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia.”
Chellie Cameron, President and CEO of the Chamber, added: “The Chamber is proud to recognize Essential Utilities as a 2025 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia. Each of this year’s honorees are valued members of Greater Philadelphia’s business community, exemplifying what it means to be a positive corporate citizen and demonstrating the power of service. We thank Essential Utilities for their efforts and congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”
Since its creation in 2011, the national Civic 50 program has served as a benchmark for corporate citizenship, highlighting how businesses can drive social impact. Essential’s inclusion in the Greater Philadelphia edition underscores its role as a leader in community engagement and responsible corporate leadership.
