UPPER DARBY, PA — Dwight City Group has officially begun the transformation of the historic Hanover Street Mill in Pottstown, signaling a major step forward in the borough’s ongoing revitalization. The project will convert the early-20th-century warehouse at 274 North Hanover Street into 85 upscale one- and two-bedroom apartments, blending industrial character with modern living.
The development, designed to preserve the mill’s historic architecture while adding contemporary comforts, will include a 10,000-square-foot rooftop deck adorned with green space and garden-inspired landscaping, offering expansive views of the nearby mountain range. Future residents will also have access to a fitness center, office space, a café, indoor parking, and a resident lounge. Leasing is expected to begin in the next 12 to 18 months.
A groundbreaking ceremony held on July 2 attracted a mix of local and state officials, underscoring the project’s importance to the community.
“This project marks another significant step forward in Pottstown’s revitalization,” said Justin Keller, Borough Manager of Pottstown. “The 85 new apartments will help address our growing demand for quality housing in walkable, transit-accessible neighborhoods, while also expanding the Borough’s tax base through the transformation of a long-underutilized site.”
Keller emphasized the broader economic benefits, noting that an influx of new residents within walking distance of downtown is expected to boost local businesses and enhance the vibrancy of the borough’s core.
Echoing this sentiment, Peggy Lee-Clark, Executive Director of Pottstown Area Economic Development (PAED), highlighted the project’s role in strengthening the local economy. “The opportunity this development will provide for Pottstown’s economy, both now and in the future, is vital to the strengthening of the Downtown Area,” Lee-Clark said. “PAED is grateful to Dwight City Group for ‘picking’ Pottstown and their ongoing commitment to bringing this project to fruition.”
Lee-Clark further praised the developer’s approach, stating, “This is the kind of project we want to do over and over again. I wish I had 10 Dwight City Groups.”
As the region continues to attract attention for its revitalization efforts, the Hanover Street Mill project stands out as a symbol of Pottstown’s transformation, honoring its industrial past while shaping a more vibrant, livable future.
