TELFORD, PA — Dräger has been selected to present its new Polaris surgical light at the Vizient Innovative Technology Exchange, an event that brings together leading healthcare providers and suppliers to highlight technologies aimed at improving patient safety and operational performance. The Exchange will take place on September 17 in Las Vegas.
Vizient, the nation’s largest provider-driven healthcare performance improvement company, uses the annual Exchange to evaluate products and services that could enhance care delivery or support more efficient business models. Supplier technologies are reviewed by clinical and supply chain experts from Vizient’s member hospitals.
Dräger’s Polaris operating room light is designed to address two major challenges in surgical settings: the need for precise illumination and the importance of safety safeguards. Its LED optical system produces a uniform light field with sharp edges and high color accuracy, helping surgical teams better distinguish tissue details. The light’s adjustable field diameter and brightness give operating room staff control over intensity and coverage.
To mitigate risks, Dräger developed a Light Guard feature that automatically limits irradiance to safe levels, reducing the chance of tissue damage when multiple light sources are focused on the same area. This safeguard is particularly important for patients who may be photosensitive due to certain treatments.
The Polaris Pro and Pro+ models also integrate Anti-Glare and Eye Relax functions to minimize harsh contrasts and reduce blue light exposure, which can cause surgeon eye strain and fatigue during lengthy procedures. For surgical documentation and teaching, an optional 4K MedView camera captures high-resolution video for review and sharing.
“We are very excited to participate in the Vizient Innovative Technology Exchange to exhibit our new Polaris surgical light,” said Merouane Djerbal, marketing director at Dräger, Inc.
Since its inception in 2003, Vizient’s Innovative Technology Program has reviewed more than 1,700 supplier submissions. Selection for the Exchange provides companies like Dräger with direct exposure to decision-makers across some of the nation’s largest health systems, potentially influencing adoption of new tools in operating rooms nationwide.
For Dräger, showcasing the Polaris system highlights the company’s focus on surgical efficiency and patient safety at a time when hospitals are increasingly prioritizing technology that delivers measurable improvements in clinical outcomes.
