WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) secured another injunction against Disney after a German court ruled the entertainment company infringed an InterDigital patent tied to high dynamic range video streaming technology.
The decision from the Munich Regional Court adds to a growing list of international rulings in InterDigital’s favor. The same court previously granted an injunction over a separate InterDigital patent covering methods for dynamically overlaying one video stream onto another. A Brazilian court also issued a preliminary injunction earlier this year after finding that Disney infringed both patents at issue.
Disney can appeal the latest ruling in Germany.
InterDigital said the judgments reflect the breadth of its video research and the role its technologies play in modern streaming platforms. “This decision is another example of how Disney continues to use our technology and infringe our intellectual property without a license, for free,” said Josh Schmidt, InterDigital’s chief legal officer. “The patents in our lawsuits against Disney highlight the breadth of our video research from the efficient compression and delivery of video content to enabling the kind of visual experience that was once reserved for movie theaters. Disney should now pay fair value for technology that is key to its streaming success.”
InterDigital develops technologies used across wireless communications, video processing, and multimedia platforms. The company has pursued litigation in multiple jurisdictions to enforce its intellectual property rights in video and streaming technologies.
