WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Wilmington that claimed the life of a 21-year-old rider earlier this month.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on August 10, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m. when a Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle was traveling northbound on Barley Mill Road and entered the off-ramp leading eastbound to Kennett Pike. For reasons not yet determined, police say the rider failed to negotiate the curve, striking a guardrail on the left side of the ramp.
The impact caused the motorcyclist, identified as Zack Napolitano of Wilmington, to be ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Authorities confirmed that on August 24, 2025, Napolitano succumbed to those injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours following the crash as members of the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.
The inquiry remains active, and investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to contact Sergeant J. Jefferson at (302) 365-8484, or to reach out anonymously through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and no final determinations have been made at this time.
