Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on I-95 in Newark

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon on Interstate 95 near the Churchmans Road overpass.

According to investigators, the incident took place on September 29, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m. when an unloaded Freightliner dump truck was traveling southbound in the center-left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the driver abruptly braked and swerved to the left, causing the truck to collide with the concrete center median.

Authorities reported that the driver, a 46-year-old man from Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The crash resulted in the closure of the three left southbound lanes of Interstate 95 for approximately three hours while the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted its investigation and cleared the roadway.
