Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Newark Involving Suspected Street Racing

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision in Newark on Friday afternoon that left one man dead and another seriously injured.

The crash occurred on August 22, 2025, at approximately 3:23 p.m. at the intersection of Bear Christiana Road and Freedom Road. Investigators say a maroon Chevrolet Trax was traveling northbound on Bear Christiana Road and attempting to turn left onto Freedom Road when it was struck by a southbound black BMW 335.

According to police, the BMW was reportedly racing an unidentified vehicle at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection. The impact occurred when the BMW collided with the right front side of the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 75-year-old Newark man, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. His name has not been released pending notification of his family.

The driver of the BMW, a 49-year-old Newark man, was also taken to a local hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

Bear Christiana Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours as authorities investigated and cleared the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation and seeking witnesses to the crash or anyone with information about the incident.
