Decorative Art Meets Modern Imagination in ‘Bespoke Matter’ Exhibition

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A new exhibition at Park Towne Place is reimagining the boundaries of functional design. Bespoke Matter, presented by InLiquid, explores how decorative arts continue to shape human expression across cultures and time. The show, on view from October 24 through January 20, 2026, invites visitors to consider what happens when everyday objects move beyond utility to become art.

The exhibition features five Philadelphia-based artists—Sophie Glenn, Leslie A. Grossman, Elizabeth Hamilton, Leah Kaplan, and Lisa Marie Patzer—each redefining craftsmanship through unconventional mediums. Glenn, a metalworker, reinterprets classic furniture entirely in steel, blurring the line between sculpture and design. Grossman’s “psychedelic Victorian” wallpapers evolve from hand-marbled papers layered with quilting and weaving. Hamilton transforms disposable paper plates into replicas of fine European chinaware, while Kaplan’s clay vessels highlight the tension between texture, light, and form. Patzer merges digital media and history, reconstructing patterns from over a thousand scanned slides into chromatic light installations.

Curated by InLiquid, the exhibition is part of a rotating series at Park Towne Place Apartment Homes, which has become a cultural destination for art and design in the city. A free public opening reception will be held on October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring artist talks and gallery tours beginning at the North Tower, with hors d’oeuvres provided by AVANA.

The event aligns with CraftNOW’s annual Craft Month and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show in November, reinforcing Philadelphia’s status as a hub for innovation in the decorative arts. Viewings are available by appointment by contacting programming@inliquid.org. The Park Towne Place art program is presented by AIR Communities, one of Philadelphia’s largest apartment home owners.
