PHILADELPHIA, PA — Daytime drivers on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia should brace for delays this weekend and into next week as PennDOT rolls out pavement patching on one of the region’s busiest stretches of highway.
PennDOT announced that lane closures will be in place on both northbound and southbound I-95 as crews perform daytime pavement repairs aimed at improving ride quality and safety. The work is expected to cause significant backups during peak travel hours.
On Saturday, January 3, lane closures are scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Allegheny Avenue interchanges. Additional southbound closures will follow on Monday, January 5, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM in the same area.
Northbound drivers will also be affected next week. Lane closures are planned Tuesday, January 6, and Wednesday, January 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between the Allegheny Avenue and Cottman Avenue interchanges.
PennDOT warned motorists to allow extra travel time when passing through the work zones, noting that delays and congestion are expected throughout the scheduled work periods. All activities are weather dependent.
With multiple daytime closures planned on a heavily traveled corridor, motorists are urged to plan ahead and adjust travel schedules where possible.
