MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Motorists who rely on Stenton Avenue in Springfield and Whitemarsh townships are being urged to plan ahead as PennDOT schedules daytime pipe replacement work that will temporarily shut down a key local corridor in early January.
PennDOT announced that pipe replacement is set to begin Tuesday, January 6, triggering weekday closures of Stenton Avenue between Bethlehem Pike and Joshua Road. The work will run through Friday, January 9, with the roadway closed and detoured daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
During the closures, drivers will be rerouted using Bethlehem Pike, Route 73 (Skippack Pike/Church Road), and Joshua Road. PennDOT warned that traffic delays and backups are likely in the area during work hours and advised motorists to allow additional travel time. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The project is part of PennDOT’s ongoing maintenance efforts aimed at preserving roadway infrastructure and preventing future drainage issues, particularly during heavy rain events.
With the work scheduled to occur during daytime hours on a well-traveled route, traffic impacts could be significant for commuters, local residents, and commercial traffic. Motorists are encouraged to monitor conditions closely and adjust travel plans in advance.
