Daylong Shutdown Set to Snarl Stenton Avenue Traffic in Montgomery County

Road work - traffic alert

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A key local artery through Springfield and Whitemarsh townships will be taken offline for much of the day next week as PennDOT crews move in to replace aging drainage infrastructure.

PennDOT announced that pipe replacement work is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, triggering a full closure of Stenton Avenue between Bethlehem Pike and Joshua Road from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The daytime shutdown is expected to disrupt commuter, school, and commercial traffic across the corridor.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured via Bethlehem Pike, Route 73 (Skippack Pike and Church Road), and Joshua Road. PennDOT warned that backups and delays are likely along both the work zone and detour routes and advised drivers to allow extra travel time. All activities are weather dependent.

The pipe replacement is part of PennDOT’s ongoing effort to maintain roadway drainage systems and prevent future failures that can damage pavement and create safety hazards for drivers.

With a full daytime closure planned on a heavily traveled township road, motorists are urged to plan ahead and stay informed as conditions change.
